Would you like to spend your summer holidays usefully? I propose reading the following post on the best books ever.
The Lover, Marguerite Duras
This amazing book has a little more than 100 pages. As a matter of fact, you can bring it with you to the beach, for example, or even to the swimming pool. The main heroine of this book is Duras, a French teenager, who lived in Vietnam. This girl got acquainted and decided to have an affair with one Chinese man who was rich and older than Duras. The prose itself is gripping and won’t leave you indifferent.
The Stench of Honolulu, Jack Handey
This is another story that you could include on your list of summer beach reads. The book is really hilarious and has much humor. The main heroes are situated in Honolulu, a tropical city. A narrator of the story as well as his friend leads an adventurous life and discovers an ancient civilization. This book is full of satire and will undoubtedly prepare you for the summer holidays.
Memories of My Melancholy Whores, Gabriel Garcia Marquez
This is a novella that has only 115 pages. It tells a story of a man who is 90 years old and makes up his mind to buy himself a present for his birthday. This present is a virgin whore. On the one hand, this sounds really terrible and horrifying. On the other hand, if you begin to read this book, later you will realize that the author described the lives of these main heroes in such a beautiful way that you couldn’t even think of.
Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer
This is the book about one man whose name is Christopher McCandless. The story is quite terrifying and harrowing. Actually, it is based on the real events. In fact, McCandless decides to spend his summertime living in the wilderness alone. He sets off as soon as he finishes college. You will certainly like this story and will read it till the end.
So, I wish you to read these books and spend your summer vacation doing something useful!
