Introduction

Information technology has played a significant role in making art activities efficient. As such, art industry should also ensure that they embrace technology and incorporate it in their designs. This will make the face of the industry change and increase its significance in the society.

Statement of the Problem

Many people and researchers have extensively researched the art field. Such researches have led to the improvement of the industry as each subsequent research adds value to the art business. However, there are still gaps presented by these researches. The issue of technological incorporation in the art business is not adequately addressed. Incorporating technology in the art industry is important as different ideas will be brought forward and as a result, the industry will be changed in a positive way.

Subjects for study

This research proposal gives the research question, background and procedure methods to be used for the study. Focus on the art businesses will aim at establishing what the software features ought to be incorporated in order to enhance growth in the art industry. The research will concentrate on commercial art businesses since they are many and are readily available. Moreover, commercial art businesses provide more accurate information about their experiences in their endeavors regarding the art market, more than the non-profit art businesses who may decline to give information. This difference is expected to result from the observation that commercial art businesses are more honest with answers than non-profit art organizations. Ricks Company has been chosen as the reference company due to the researcher’s professional associations with the company, as well as likely support for the study and access to information.

Ethical considerations

Some sensitive issues are ethical in nature, which can be faced during information gathering, include the following. First ethical issue, prior to emailing out the questionnaires to the selected pool of respondents, the interviewees might need to seek permission from their seniors since they are not allowed to respond to some issues about an organization, to which they are members. For example, a manager may need to speak to a CEO researcher’s intention to conduct a survey. A CEO then reviews the research questionnaires and suggests for the researcher to speak to human resources directly, copying a manager in the email conversation. After a human resources manager reviews the questionnaires, and if he or she is happy with the content, the researcher can be given the approval to circulate the questionnaires via e-mail. Bottleneck of the process is the approval of questionnaires by the Human Resources Manger and the CEO, as well as getting all the respondents responses back in time, because the required information on membership of a trade union may be very sensitive.

Researchers may overcome the difficulties of collecting these types of sensitive data by using a descriptive research methodology, which involves the administration of open-ended questionnaires that are non-offensive in nature. Sensitive information should only be asked towards the end of the questionnaire or interview, especially after sufficient information has been gathered. The researcher should specifically use approaches such as surveys, questionnaires and interview obtain data for analysis. The survey should be administered to a predetermined number of participants drawn from the target population. The questionnaire should contain only questions, which elicit answers directly related to the topic of study.

Purpose of the Study

The inadequacy of information technology may hinder innovation in the art industry and this implies that, over a considerable period, there will be redundant in the industry. The purpose of this research proposal is to access how information technology would be incorporated to enhance innovation in the art businesses.

Research Questions

The study will address questions on the nature of technology to be used, how it will affect the industry and how it will bring change in the social and economic life.

  1. What technology should the art industry incorporate to improve the innovativeness and creativity?
  2. What will it be a turning point of the industry?
  3. How will it improve the thinking of practitioners within the industry?
  4. What will be the effect on the social life of individual’s social life and the economic status of the entire country?

Study Measurements/Design

The research is primarily a quantitative study, which will tend to develop recommendations and conclusions from the statistical handling of the data collected. The objective of a quantitative study is to classify features that are associated with the phenomena being addressed by the study, to obtain a figure of the features as well as constructing statistical models, which are important, as they will aid in explanation of the nature and occurrence of the phenomenon. The one conducting this research has wide knowledge on what he aims to discover. In addition, this quantitative research design will help the researcher, as it will allow the development of tools for the study prior to collection of data. As such, the best data collection tools will be questioners as well as interviews. Therefore, this is what motivated the researcher to choose this quantitative design of the study.

The research paper is to give relevant data on methods that can be used for interviews useful in qualitative relations in the research study. In this research, qualitative research of the art business in the exhibition and gallery will be the center of attention.  Interviews are relevant data collection methods mostly used in research. The structured interviews are conducted in a way that interviewer sets questionnaires before the actual interview, which helps in preparing interviewers relevant to his research study. Unstructured interviews involve random questions on the research study (Beckman, 2010).

Data Collection Methods

In the study, the predominant tools for collecting data will be used of questionnaires and interviews. The chosen sample of art businesses will be supplied with questionnaires. This will involve sending them using such methods as hand delivery and through registered mailings. Further, a small training will be conducted, which will be aimed at making the sample population to comprehend what the study aim to do.

Interviews usually are made of many communication fields. Introduced interviews in social research are that relevant data, which is usually made efficient through dialogue. Relation to a certain topic brings different viewpoints together. Communication and knowledge changes have brought interview methods like chart boxes and e-mail addresses (Anderson, Sweeney, Williams & Anderson, 2008). Various practitioners conducted research of interviews that they say act as a direct link to the source of data and information.

Data Analysis and Presentation

The questionnaires, which are already filled, will be scrutinized to identify errors. Rejection criteria will be the following: those questionnaires with a significant number of errors, which are capable of influencing the results in a biased manner, will be rejected. After scrutinizing them and eliminating the flawed ones, the rest will be inputted into a computer to form the researcher database (Taylor, 2005). As such, it will be transformed and adapted in an electronic form. This will be done by filling them in Microsoft Office spreadsheets. The reason why it is stored in a Microsoft spreadsheet is because it will enhance the analysis of data from the primary data analysis tools. Further, the data stored will be analyzed with the statistical package for economics. This software efficiently works for performance of data analysis including regressions, tabulation, and development of charts, AVOVA, correlations, as well as other formats of data presentation (Anderson, Sweeney, Williams & Anderson, 2008).
