Quantitative methods involve use of statistical and mathematical techniques in the analysis of a given or proposed data. This helps in the test for empirical theories and hypothesis developed in a given field of study. The field of study mostly could vary. This paper deals extensively with three scenarios namely business field, societal issues and on personal perspective dimensions. Each of the three situations have got specific problem that needs to be addressed as illustrated bellow in this work.
In societal perspective, quantitative methods is very useful for instance when one tries to identify an average time that each patient may take in a waiting room before attended to by the doctor. In a business perspective, what percentages of the patients rate the given drugs in the hospital as very effective for them? This aspect may give the answer in numerical values hence defines the concept of quantitative methods. This helps in the interpretation of the whole concept in relation to the subject matter. In this case, the subject of interest is determination of what percentage of students study in the library in a given semester. The subject of interest is to evaluate this so that library expansion can be done or the normal size can be retained. This is because many students have got different opinion on the importance of library. Some state that it is not important to do personal study in the library while others states that this is the best place to do personal research.
In clarifying this matter effectively, various quantitative methods are used to verify the situation. Decision analysis is one of the methods that I have use in analysis of the quantitative data. Acquisition of the data is done through inquiring as to why the students decided to use the library or not. Decision analysis as a method had proved to be very effective since it was used appropriately. This is because it is always very difficult for some students to make positive decisions by going to the library to do their studies. Many factors are involved in this kind of study and the analysis should be able to include the performance level of the students who study in the library, and the quality grades they obtain in each subject. The survey includes most of the students picked randomly from different year. The sources of the study are some of the variables that help in the study in order to get a specific and a convincing data. Questionnaires are developed to help in conducting the research. This method may help in the understanding all the elements in the decision alternatives by using given individual reasons.
It is also very important and quite challenging to compare various actions taken by the students because sometimes making this decision may prove to be very challenging. The difficulties encountered in the decision making come about through certain complexities and generally decision making may involve consideration of the consequences in the process. These consequences may be either passing examinations well or failing even though one spends some humble time in the library.
In understanding the process of this decision making, it takes steps for the general understanding of the process. The origin of decision theory judges that decisions are made through computing utility and the probability. This helps in giving out strategies for deciding whether one does something very helpful or not. The main purpose is to understand the action that an individual takes. The decision making process is required that the students will be able to utilize and the process involves these factors.
The first is identification of the situation and understanding the objectives of the action. Then there is also identification of any alternatives that may be required. After this, one decomposes and designs the possible problem outcome then choosing of the alternative action to be taken is done. This will make many students to understand whether they will be able to concentrate while studying in the library or while choosing the private room or house for studies. People have got different tastes and interests and this plays a role in making such decision. Then there is sensitivity analysis which is done to ensure that the best alternative place is chosen. These factors determine the percentage of the students that may either decide to use the library or just use private hostels.
Data acquisition
Data which is use is based on the availability of the students and this can be designed by through registration process. The registration process may involve the students who attend the library. Those who attend the library will have to be registered either electronically by the library attendant. This can be done after some periodic time during the research. The number is noted down per day against the number of students’ population. The data must be accurately designed to void confusion or mixing the information. Taking of records on the activities in the library and what kind of the materials that the students are reading is also noted. This can be done secretly to avoid change of attention.
Using questionnaires is also another method of data collection technique. This must be designed to facilitate the whole process and identifying the areas of interest. This method of collection assists in obtaining regular and routine data. For instance, the students here provide a good environment for the study of the data given the area of interest. Data collection is also managed through having open interviews for the students. This will help in analysis process during this period. The structured interview may help in this case to verify the outcome and getting into deeper understanding of the concept in clarification of the subject matter. In addition, data is also obtained through having focused groups. Grouping the students whereby each group is about five to six individuals and getting their opinion on the issue is important. Use of direct observation may also work but this can lead into misinterpretation of the concepts.
Solving the problem and analyzing the results
The data analysis is done through use of various instruments in order to determine the percentage of the students who uses the library in a given period. The analysis can be presented in ways that helps in the deeper interpretation of the process. These data are then analyzed in three forms namely the tabular analysis, graphical analysis and finally mathematical analysis which finally gives the numerical results. Any method selected majorly depends on the skill of the user and in this case, the researcher who needs the information for the academic development purposes. In tabular presentation of data, for instance, the results is made in a table frame where the entire outcome is registered based on the variables. For instance the table bellow shows the number of students that gave their respondents and this format is limited to the numerical values of the information obtained. Given that the survey process was done by using the sampled number of students of a hundred.

The figures show that there is variation in the number that study in the library. This consideration must be understood based on some factors. This is because the quantitative methods help in the understanding what can be done with given information. It requires mathematics skills that can be very helpful in analysis of the data. From the information posted, it is reflected that more students are able to study in the library during the beginning of the week. The number depreciates with time until Friday when the number using the library reduces. This gives a general opinion that students do not like using libraries over the weekend. When the number using the library is balanced with the ones that do not use the library, at some point it is noted more than half do not use the library.
Based on the interview questions which were conducted face to face conversations, This practically gave some opinions on the matter because some people just fear reading whole they feel library needs concentration that they may employ. In this case, education is like an investment that may require comparison to the course of action taken and the impact it has in the process. This quantitative research is based on the given samples and statistically it is more valid in giving out the accurate results. This helps to understand why some students do not like to study in the libraries during the week days. There are higher percentages of students studying in the library than ones that do note study there. This helps in the understanding of the problem and gives the numerical values in determining the figures. Some students only use the library when conducting research given out by the lecturers. The materials can be borrowed and read anywhere where the environment is conducive for studying.
From give information, libraries also have got data that is used by the students in doing their assignments. When the students have got the assignment, they tend to go to the library to conduct the research effectively.
According to the data, library use is having highest percentage. For instance, the approximated number in the stated figures gives the values to be more than fifty percent. The percentage reflected gives the results to the question whose objective is determination of percentage students who uses the library.
The bar graph helps to helps in understanding the numerical values of the students who have preferred their place of study by choice. This result is useful in data giving out the real picture available. The problems encountered in this quantitative method of research work are the actualization of the interest of the students. In conclusion, the result is useful in analysis needs of students and the action to be taken by the management to facilitate the culture of reading by the students.
