Concerted Cultivation

In most cases, equal prospect philosophy is based on justice fairness, and equity. In concerted cultivation is a system of child rearing. In this parenting system, middle class parents ensures that they foster the talents of their children by making sure that there are organized activates in the lives of their children. The focus in this parenting system also ensures that there is close interaction with the social institutions (Lareau, 2003). To ensure fairness, justice and equity, the organized activates are controlled by the middle class parents. This changes the behavior of children, and they are able to gain confidence of even questioning the adults.

There are cultural benefits accredited to concerted cultivation. Because it is widely practiced in wealthy families, it affects the habitats of children brought up in such environment socially. Children reared under this system shows strong social ability in the institutions. Theses greater abilities in such children are ascribed to engagement and experiences with their parents, sports, music, as well as power structures. Despite the encouraging qualities attributed to this child rearing system, there is a link to increased financial expenses and academic success (Booth & Crouter, 2008).

There is another group of parents who do not get the importance of concerted cultivation. According to these mothers and fathers, there is an existing boundary between children and adults. They do not believe in eliciting their children’s feelings as well as thoughts. In such a case children are left to choose over their leisure activates. Out of this, it is clear that equality lacks in the rearing of children from different cultural background. Concerted cultivation helps children to acquire skills and abilities that would be beneficial in the future when they enter the working class (Handel, 2006). There are negative factors resulting from this system, for example, emergence of a disrespectful behavior towards the authority figures.

These different children rearing styles have led to some transmission of a number of advantages to children. Children brought up under the concentrated cultivation at times shows interest of wanting to decide what they want for leisure although this is usually the decision of the mothers and fathers. When we come to the other group of children the decision lies upon them on what to do with their leisure time. Children reared under concentrated cultivation system results to be more enlightened and develop confidence compared to the other group. This is because they are able to develop their talents right away from their young age.
