Universities create a diverse environment with regard to the people, who make up the culture. These people include those wishing to advance their professions. There are also those students, who want to get basic preparation for their studies. Then there are those people, who work in these institutions. In preparation of an organization culture, management has to find a way to balance all these stakeholders and fulfill each of their needs. Universities are vulnerable to outside influence. This influence could be politically, socially or economically oriented (Blackmore, 2009). With the recent developments, universities are no longer single-goal institutions as they were in the past. Aspects of finance, cultural integration are the areas that universities should focus on in order to create a stable environment.

These increasing issues have made the management of the universities a complex affair. In addition, there are problems that these institutions face. They include an increase in the population, decline in the financial backing and lack of autonomy. Nowadays, the university culture cannot be defined only by performance and internal relations. External influences have taken root into these institutions and are threatening to destabilize them further.

In efforts to build strong cultures, universities need to find a way to link all subunits and stakeholders under a unified umbrella. The relationship between university cultures and strategic management should be nurtured, as it is the one, which leads to streamlining of structure and external environment. In addition, it affects the mission and vision of these institutions, which remain as the primary objective.

This article touches upon some important issues that are affecting universities today. These institutions are almost released into the free market. Soon, if the trend is not reversed, universities will be run by private institutions. To avoid this, management and the government should look into streamlining the organization culture. This will affect the way these institutions relate to the outside world.

Outside participation of universities is fundamental in the society and its progressive occurrence. On the reverse, it is beneficial, when the society comes to aid the development of the universities. This brings about integration and inclusion of the society and institutions of the higher education. Universities have to deliver the objective of the development. The dimensions of development include educational and academic development, structural and staff development (Sporn, 1996). Without these, the institutions will have stagnated and will not serve their purposes for the society. The ISIS model is used as a measure for the development.

More university mangers are becoming actively involved in the strategic planning. Such undertakings prepare the institutions for the future and any changes that the external environment may pose. Also, future planning minimizes the risk of policy failures in these institutions. Not everyone can afford a chance to facilitate his or her own higher education. Universities are embracing the concepts of scholarships. This is where needy and bright students are given a chance to advance their education. This helps institutions get in touch with all members of the society regardless of their economic standing. It also helps in literary advancement of these institutions as well as of the society. One can hence not argue on the negative side of the scholarships. The resources spent on these endeavors are noble and help to build the institutions.

Development of university leads to improvement of the quality of life. This article offers ways in which the services offered at the universities can be improved for the benefit of all. There is a need for change in operations of these institutions, especially given that over the past years, performance has been on a downward trend. The society offers a good point through which development of these institutions can be based. After all, the society produces students, staff and even the leaders that form these institutions. Therefore, any development agendas on the aspect of organizational structure and culture should include the welfare of the society.
