Autism arises as a result of neurological disorder in a person brain. Children who suffer from autism may be seen as characterized with normal brain function at early stages of its development (Zimmerman, 2008). Majority of people confess that those suffering with autism tend to appear normal in the course of their lives while an inward image prints a devastating neurological abnormality.
Impairment of Autism
A child with autism will develop different characteristics. For instance, the child will inflict self injury through his or her various movements. This might include the picking of their skin, biting their hands, and at times bang their head. Zimmerman (2008) further states that this creates a scenario where care givers have to keep close watch on them since they can cause more harm to themselves. These people also develop a ritualistic behavior in which they can do one given thing for a long time. They do not want the physical environment to be changed and if this is the case, they cause problems in wanting to retain the former self.
In a child’s development, parents notice that their children begin to show sign of seizures as they approach the puberty stage. It is apparent that the child will have a brief lose of concentration and which will later result into vibrant shaking. Changes that occur in the body and in the environment will greatly affect autistic teens (Zimmerman, 2008). This will as a result create a confusing environment as far as their friends and sexuality is concerned.
Limitation of Autism
Persons with autism have a development disability that greatly affects nonverbal as well as verbal communication. A child will be seen at age 3, retreating from social interaction. Several researchers state that this type of attitude greatly affects the child’s education performance. Any changes in the environment will be met by negative reaction to those suffering from autism. A person affected with autism will experience difficulty in falling asleep as well as frequent awakenings.
