In management, planning is vital in order to achieve the desired objectives. Policy and procedure manual is the cornerstone of success, and executing it involves setting off goals that support an organization's objective and contribute to adequate performance. The direction of the organization is determined by the ability of managers to develop effective employee management plans to get projected results (Haddock, McLean, & Chapman, 2002).

As a manager of infectious disease department, planning of work is the way to achieve proper management. It will involve the setting up of performance targets for individual nurses as they direct their efforts towards meeting the objectives of the school. Setting of performance expectations, goals for groups, and individuals toward achieving organizational objectives is paramount (Aikens, 1985). Getting employees involved in the planning process helps them understand the goals of the organization, what needs to be done, why it needs to be done, and how well it should be done.

Monitoring of work in a healthcare organization is crucial to ensure consistent performance. According to Kelly (2003), monitoring includes conducting the progress account and performance is compared against standards set. For successful management, making of decisions should be decentralized to avoid unnecessary bureaucracies when urgent decisions regarding the affairs of patients in hospitals are to be made (Melnyk & Overholt, 2011).

Capacity development will increase the ability of nurses to perform in their work. In this aspect employees will be given new tasks to perform, be trained on new skills and prepare them to higher positions of responsibility. For infection disease department to be successful, nurse developmental wishes should be evaluated and tackled. Providing them with training and developmental opportunities will reinforce satisfactory performance and strengthen them with work associated skills and competencies. Rewarding of nurses, recognizing them, accepting and appreciating their contribution to the department are crucial to maximize on their output. It can take the form of cash, time off and non monetary items (Srinivasan, 2008).
