Culture and Socialization

Socialization is the process through which individuals acquire skills, knowledge, customs and values of the society they build up social identity. It comes about from early stages of life where children learn indispensable facts and values of the social order. Later on, they start discovering advanced knowledge and obtain logic. In personality configuration, socialization plays a very important task. Much of the human personality is determined by genes. Socialization models it by promoting particular beliefs, attitudes and experiences. It explanations much of the diverse personalities in one society compared to another. Socialization can lead to commonness within a society. If all children attain the same socialization, it is certain that they may have similar beliefs and expectations. It is possible for two people living in the same society to have conflicting qualities. Culture is a prototype of fundamental assumptions created, discovered or expanded by a given group. When these assumptions have functioned well, they are passed on to fresh members as the right way to distinguish, think and feel in relation to similar challenges. Formation of a culture makes the history of an organization and encourages a sense of belonging to its members. Culture develops oneness and raises exchange within an organization (Williams, 1972).

Cultural Influence on Human Behavior

            Everyone has benefited in one way or the other from their culture. Language and culture have made human behavior more intelligent and creative. The experiences we all go through growing our shape our development. The social experience and conditions within the framework of our inherited genetic prospective interact in coming up with human behavior. Every individual is born into social and cultural surroundings. Growing up, they build up much social association. A child’s social setting determines how they study to think and behave. They interact at home, in school and other institutions. Through instructions, demonstrations, punishments and rewards, they learn. Children interrelate with other children, their parents, neighbors, media and anyone else in their environment. They are modeled by how they respond to all these types of influences. The culture they are raised in influences their response. Some behavior patterns like language become imbedded deep into their mind. They often function completely unaware of them. Cultures differ in how their patterns and meanings operate. Clothing, systems of government, social roles, beliefs and attitudes towards other cultures revolutionize from one cultural setting to another. A culture may be may be thought as correct and adopted by families, religious gatherings, governments and other entities. A culture holds social distinctions based on the good or bad. Also, social classes may be formed on the grounds of wealth, education or other factors. These classes can be flexible and are associated with various identifiers. The class one is born in affects how they will be. Their dressing, behaviors and tastes are influenced. Their experiences are settled on this class. The kind of schools they attend and to what level they study can be affected by the kind of social class they are born in. Their standard of living is obviously related to their class. Rarely do people die in a different social class from which they were born in (Presthus, 1977).

Cultural Deviance

            The social consequences and the right or wrong definition in one’s culture play a big role in its members’ role. Individuals receive much socialization from their relatives because they spend more time with them than anyone else. Other times, someone else other than a family member teaches the children. In schools and churches for instance, they are all taught together. They definitely not the same form of socialization reaches each of them. An extensive number does not receive adequate socialization to make them responsible enough. Deviance is an intentional violation of unconditional codes. It is correlated with erroneous behavior. What is normal can be different to another individual or a society. Some cultural factors give birth to deviance. Most deviant behaviors can be regarded as amusing or go unpunished. A society decided what deviance is and what is not. Over time, the definition may revolutionize. Sometimes, individuals can control themselves and do the right thing. Other times, the society has to step in with punishments to control them. It criminalizes acts that interrupt the order of the culture. Some deviant actions cannot be regarded as criminal. Other times, crimes are not deviant. Deviance is trained through socialization. Some deviant behaviors denote a certain culture. It becomes part of the culture to act in a certain manner. Therefore, children picked the deviance from the adults and passed it on through socialization.  A society becomes labeled as deviant to the extent of internalizing it. They interact with people of their kind and become comfortable with their status. When the society protects deviant people, they cannot change their behaviors.

Canada Culture

            In Canada, various people unite in the nation but hang on to their cultural identities. They come from all corners of the world and retain their languages, and traditions. In Canada, many things are written in English and also French. Other languages are recognized to some extent. Finding someone who does not speak any of the two national languages is not treated as a big deal. There are numerous parts of each culture in every day to day activity. Clothing and food varies with the kind of people living in a particular area. It is absolutely typical. People can stick to the culture they were brought up in. Most of its inhabitants were born outside Canada. It is one of the most multicultural kingdoms in the world. . People are assimilated into the American culture and become “one”. Canada was initiated by French and English. It is less racist and less openly religious compared to the United States. They are a lot more tolerant. Inter racial dating is common and more normal in Canada. A majority of Canadians conform to this norm. It is normal for a man to marry a woman from a different ethnic group. To some cultures, it is unacceptable (Nakhaie, 2007).

American Culture

            American culture is different from the Canada culture. Types of cultures do not exist as much as in Canada. America has diverse cultures but encourages uniformity. Many nations have been invaded by the United States military. The American culture promotes concentration of wealth which makes a few extremely rich. This also leads to some getting enslaved. It also allows threats and violence in some situations. This can make some injure others physically or hold them against their will. The empire also controls what a lesser being thinks. Through enslavement, they can spread false propaganda. Once its citizens adopt this kind of thinking as normal, it might be dangerous. They can even pass it down generations. To them, it is okay but to the outside world, this may face opposition.


            Where an individual is born plays a big part in how their life goes. Canada has many ethnic groups while America has diverse ethnics as well. Religious groups are found in both countries too. They use English as a recognized language. Still, Canada’s assortment is remarkable. United State’s freedom has attracted a number of people. This is how it came across. It has different opportunities for all kinds of people. Students can attend classes dressed the way they will. In some countries, it is abnormal and discouraged. The difference in their cultures may bring up people with conflicting believes.
