This poem illustrates a teenager who is losing control of his life and is disoriented. His drinking habit has led him to being disorganized and without a care for his actions. His mother is afraid for his safety an indication that his father is a violent man. The father is concerned that the writer might not finish high school if his current behavior and attitude persists. This poem highlights domestic strife and its effect on a young persons struggle to find his niche in life and to fine himself as well as his purpose. This poem is a timeless piece of literature because most people go through different phases in life as teenage is one of them. Domestic problems are also common in most families hence many people identify with the author. Family is a great institution though at times ridden by difficulties it still remains ones most identifiable influence in choices made or about to be made in life.
